Do you want to run in the second round of board elections on 29 june 2023? But you’re not sure yet which position you want to run for?

Not to worry! On this page you will find all profiles listed, supplemented with the necessary practical information. For the second round of elections, we are still looking for three board profiles: those of Director of Education, Finance and Communications. Be sure to also fill out the  interest form before 9 juni (12u) to have a Zoom interview with our volunteer coach.

President

As president, you are the face of the organisation. You maintain an overview of the organisation’s activities and have a coordinating role. You are the head of the board and prepare the board meetings, lead them and help set the agenda and short-term priorities. You are also the pioneer of the policy plan of your board team and thus help determine the long-term vision at the beginning of the operating year. You monitor its implementation throughout your mandate.

You are also the bridge between the staff and the board, for which you work closely with the coordinator. For the outside world, you are the organisation’s point of contact. You make proactive contact with important partners in consultation with the coordinator.

Directors of Education

As director of education, you bear responsibility within the board for the educational vision. You will learn about the trends and visions shaping the education field and also delve into the legislative texts and policy recommendations resulting from them. You are able to formulate positions and oversee the consequences of those positions in cooperation with the office and the relevant rapporteurs. You defend and represent your constituency, the students, by dealing smoothly with target groups and various organisations in the higher education landscape. VVS’s higher education policy officer will guide and support you where necessary.

Director of Social Affaires & Diversity

As Director of Social Affairs & Diversity, you will bear responsibility within the board for the social vision of higher education. You will learn about the trends and visions that increase accessibility in education and also delve into the legislative texts and policy recommendations resulting from them. You are able to formulate positions and oversee the consequences of those positions in cooperation with the agency and the relevant rapporteurs. You defend and represent your constituency, the students, by dealing smoothly with target groups and different organisations in the higher education landscape. You call attention to issues such as housing, mental wellbeing and study costs. VVS’s higher education policy officer will guide and support you where necessary.

Director of International Affaires

Do you have a passion for cultures, languages and education? Then the position of director international at VVS might be for you! You will learn about the trends and visions shaping education at the international forum and also delve into the legislative texts and policy recommendations that result from them. You will be able to draft positions and oversee the consequences of those positions in cooperation with the office and the rapporteurs concerned.

As director international, you defend the interests of students at European level and work on internationalisation at Flemish level. For this, you work together with our Walloon counterpart FEF (Fédération des étudiants francophones) and collaborate with all European student councils at ESU (European Students Union) meetings. You go to important meetings in Flanders and abroad. You are supported in this by the international staff member.

Director of Participation

You will learn about the trends and visions shaping education at the international forum and also delve into the legislative texts and policy recommendations that result from them. Director of  Finance

As Director of Finance, you bear responsibility for the financial policy of VVS. You are responsible for the financial reporting and control, the financial choices of VVS throughout the preparation of the budget and re-budget and increasing the involvement of the general meeting in the financial choices of VVS. That is, you determine what VVS wants to release money for within the framework of the policy plan and policy priorities that you draw up with your board. VVS staff will guide and support you where necessary and, of course, there are also many fixed costs in which you can ‘choose’ little.

Director of  Personnel

As Director of Personnel, you bear responsibility for VVS’s personnel policy. You are responsible for implementing the personnel policy, labour regulations and creating a pleasant working climate at VVS. This means that you coordinate how each staff member within the organisation assumes their role. The VVS staff guides and supports you where necessary.

Director of Communication

As Director of Communications, you will bear responsibility for VVS’s external communications. You are responsible for implementing VVS’s communication strategy, communication policy and press policy. This means that you coordinate how everyone within the organisation takes up his/her/their role within the communication from VVS. The VVS staff will guide and support you where necessary.
